THANKS & ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS-
I've got a lot of influences.
This is only a partial listing of the people out there in the world whose
own works contributed in some small way, shape or form to the story that
I'm teling here on these virtual pages.
HARLAN ELLISON
WEB OF THE CITY; SHATTERDAY;
I HAVE NO MOUTH & I MUST SCREAM...the list goes on. This is also the
person who wrote what are arguably the best episodes of the original STAR
TREK series (CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER) and the 1960's show THE
OUTER LIMITS (DEMON WITH A GLASS HAND, which was turned into a graphic
novel by legendary artist Marshall Rogers).
RAY BRADBURY
Do you really need to
be told how influential this gentleman is? Pick up any of his works (FAHRENHEIT
451, SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, THE ILLUSTRATED MAN or the lesser
known DANDELION WINE) to see why.
S.E. HINTON
This is probably the
first novelist I took a specific liking to, and I devoured her books as
a teen. She wrote her first book THE OUTSIDERS when she was only 16 years
old and I'm impressed to this day at the depth and level of her characterization.
STEPHEN KING & CLIVE BARKER
I don't place these writers
together because of their associated genre, but rather because they're both
simply GREAT at what they do. King displays a sure hand on everything he
crafts, and I read a collection of stories by Barker years ago that left
me breathless and envious. These authors are two fantastic motivators.
ROBERT LOREN FLEMING
The writer and co-creator
of a comic-book series from almost 20 years ago called THRILLER. The series
only lasted 12 issues, and Fleming only scripted just over half of them,
but the impression they made on me was enormous. Go hunt down the back issues,
read 'em and then re-read HYPER-REVOLUTION. You'll see, you'll see...!
I've got a lot of
people I need to thank, 'cause no one does it alone.
By name (with MANY more to come!):
Adam Anne Ashley Chris B. Christy Coleen Denny Emma Heather Jason Jennifer Kim Kristina Mallory Matt Melissa Ron Sandy Sasha Scott Suzanne Taneia Terri Tony Tony B. Tracy Ven. (You know...that guy.) Vera Viv I
also owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to my dear friend, compatriot,
and virtual twin Mister J. Land. The man is demonically
talented (if you knew him, you'd know how appropriate that turn of phrase
is!) and pens some fierce, deft fiction at the flick of a wrist and
flourish of a pen. He's so damn good that he makes me jealous, and I
strive to keep up with him. It's no exaggeration when I say that having
read some of his own dark tales of empowered outsiders - ask me about
THE WEEK OF NIGHTMARES sometime - I was transfixed even when
I was confused. And when I stumbled out of the confusion...I felt as
though part of my brain were finally unlocked. "Oh!" I thought.
"THAT'S how it's done...!"
Take a bow J. -- you da' man! |
